ST. LOUIS — A 23‑year‑old man has been identified as the victim of a deadly shooting and subsequent vehicle crash in south St. Louis early Monday morning. Cameron Willis was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the 7600 block of South Broadway in the Patch neighborhood and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers, according to police.

Police from District 1 responded to the scene just after 1 a.m., where they also discovered a vehicle that had crashed and was lying on its side near the location of the shooting. Dozens of shell casings were recovered, indicating a violent shootout occurred before the crash.

Investigators believe Willis may have been inside the vehicle and was likely ejected during the crash after being shot, though the exact sequence of events is still under investigation. Authorities are working to determine what led up to the shooting and have not released information on any suspects.
